Natracare's Make-up Removing Wipes

Dec 31, 2014

I've said it time and time again that using makeup removal is essential to clean skin. If you wash your face without using a makeup remover all you're doing is moving that dirt around your face and doing more harm than good because all you're doing is moving those pore clogging dirt and oils around your face.

While I'm partial to using my Neutrogena Makeup Removing Cleanser but it's not the easiest thing to travel with. I just got back from a business trip and some of that, plus other liquids, ended up spilling. BOO! So this is where wipes come in handy. Natracare's Cleansing Make-up Removal Wipes are awesome. I like that the clothes are made or organic cotton and are really strong so I'm able to use both sides to remove my makeup when I'm heading to the gym or staying over at someones place.

Unlike other makeup removing cleansing wipes these don't have any heavy perfumes which is a huge plus. The last thing I need when I just cleaned my face and am going for a run or to bed is to be bombarded with a heavy perfume scent that won't rub off without me washing my face yet again!

If you're interested in starting the new year changing up your routine and adding green products to your shelf the Natracare wipes, as well as others from their product line, are a great way to start

It's About Time We Get These MaskIT Products!

Dec 29, 2014

Let's face it, as a chick, we all have to face with something painful and dreadful once a month that lasts about two weeks. We get hungry, bloated, tired, irritable, we're in pain and then we're in constant fear of how bad things are actually going to be when things really kick in.

Without getting into all that let's talk about a product that I recently discovered that helps keep that time of the month under wraps--literally! I'm talking about MaskIT products. I'm shocked that it's taken this long for something like this to be discovered. Or at least to be brought to my attention. MaskIt makes these awesome products that well, mask the fact that you've got something going on from anyone you have to share a bathroom with. They make a series of products that come in different sizes that not only let you keep your products discreetly discarded thanks to their large and opaque designs but that will keep you nice and clean throughout the process.

MaskIt sent me an amazing package with enough products to use for myself AND to give away to one of my lucky readers so here is your chance to take half of this amazing haul just by tweeting this post! Trust me, these pouches are def worth it and should have come to us decades ago! And if you miss the giveaway or just want to stock up on as many of these as possible for yourself or to keep in your bathroom for guests then you can grab these from Amazon right here.

The Power of Deluxe Samples

Dec 27, 2014

Every time I purchase items from Sephora I make sure to get the best sample kit possible for two reasons. One of the reasons is because I love getting extras. Having samples, especially deluxe ones, lets me have products that I can comfortably fit in my travel makeup bag that will actually be used like mascara, moisturizers and glosses. The second and most important reason that I love getting tons of gift with purchase samples is because it gives me a chance to try out some products that otherwise would get lost in the shuffle due to there being hundreds of products that I look at on an almost daily basis.

My latest Sephora purchase came with A Bright Night Out which is a 9 piece deluxe sample kit that came in a super cute cherry red makeup bag. I had the option of getting a different kit but opted for this one because I needed a new eyeliner to try out, wanted to check out Pharrell's Girl perfume, am recently trying to get back into wearing red lipstick and because I adore adore adore Chloe. It was a winning choice for sure. The main reason why this drew my attention was that I realized I needed a shadow primer to help my ELF and Wet 'n Wild shadows stay on longer and a big Smashbox 24 Hour Photo Finish Shadow Primer was also included. This primer is on par with the others that I've used before because it's got a great consistency and stays put within minutes of applying which is only a bad thing if you don't set it immediately after applying it.

So now, about two months after receiving these goodies I'm ready for my next Sephora purchase. I need to get a move on it in order to maintain my VIB Rouge status with them and I know exactly what I'm going to purchase: Kat Von D's Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in BacheloretteUrban Decay's 24/7 Velvet Liner in Black Velvet and Philosophy's Loveswept Body Lotion. I'm glad these of those items were included in the kit because I don't know if I ever would have gotten around to them otherwise. Along with Kat Von D's lipstick the kit also included a red gloss by Marc Jacobs Beauty that I adore and will most likely purchase when I'm ready to get some more glosses and Lancome's mascara if after giving it a fair shot against my current obsession: They're Real by Benefit.

I'm so excited to get the full versions of some of the things I was able to try out and can't wait to discover new products thanks to these sample kits. Trying things out at my own pace is so much better than doing it at the store where I can easily forget which shade or scent I tried on.

Dream Cream Hair Moisturizer

Dec 26, 2014

Another goodie that I received a few weeks ago to try out was this Dream Cream Hair Moisturizer.  I'm usually skeptical about what I put in my hair because I'm a keratin junkie and don't want to ruin all the time and effort it takes to keep my hair pin straight but this moisturizer is totally okay for my hair. Aside from it having a bit of alcohol all the ingredients are very moisturizing. It's got cocoa butter, shea butter, aloe vera juice, vitamin E, coconut oil...all the essentials for super soft hair. It also smells really good which is a nice plus.

Now despite me loving all the ingredients in this moisturizer I'm not a fan of leaving any on my hair unless it's in the form of a mist so the way I use this is the way I use any deep conditioner. Once a week after I wash my hair I put some of this on and then sit under my hair dryer for about 20 minutes. After that I rinse it off and my hair is left super soft and smelling amazing.

It's totally worth a try for anyone interested in finding a product that's almost 100% natural and that can also double as a skin moisturizer. And just because the company is feeling generous, I get to give one of these beauties away to one of my readers. So tweet this post for your chance to win it!

Phoneography Starter Kit

Dec 8, 2014

I've been into photography for as long as I can remember and was really excited to start taking pictures with my iPhone to make things a bit easier to save and share. Unfortunately I've never had a super top of the line phone (read I still have an iPhone 4!) that produced amazing photos.

So you can only image how glad I was to get Photojojo's Phoneography Starter Kit to try out. It really did help push my phonography game to the next level! Not only is the wide/macro lens a super cool feature to have pretty much built together but I'm able to attach a magnet to the end of my iPhone so that my photos come out perfect without having to spend time making sure their lenses and my phone camera match up perfectly!

In addition to the lenses the kit includes a cool filter that looks like an old school slide which lets you take pictures with cool filters from the start by just moving the filter around the lens. It's pretty cool and I like that it forces me to commit to one fun filter and take a chance!

Everything needed comes in a really cute pouch where I can store everything that came in the kit along with my phone and it also came with this super cool dinosaur that let me test my lenses out as soon as I got them!

I'm seriously in love with this kit and am constantly on Photojojo's site looking for the next great product to buy for my iPhone and iPad. Their products are really innovative, fun and super cute to carry around!

Michael Todd's Soniclear

Michael Todd's Soniclear is amazing. I was given the chance to start using it a few weeks ago and I'm officially addicted.

I heard about these fancy electronic face scrubbers over the year but never thought I needed one. My hands and fingers do a good enough job at cleansing my face and I never thought the money was worth it. I was also always afraid that I'd have to constantly replace the brushes because they'd get dirty due to my dark makeup and my love of bronzer and blushes. Luckily the Soniclear comes with a built in antimicrobial protection to keep stains and odor causing bacteria away which is a killer for clean and healthy skin.

The last skin care tool that I purchased was the Neutrogena Microdermabrasion System back in April of 2014 and while I really like it, I was ready to graduate into something more. Something that I could use daily, gave me a deeper clean and of course was fun to use. How is the Soniclear not perfect in that situation?

The Soniclear comes with the actual device, both a face and body brush, a charging stand and the power cord. I love that it isn't battery operated because I just have to put it on the stand to charge when I'm done and it'll always be ready for the next use. Another thing that I really like is that the box comes with a larger brush to use on my body because I like to use coffee scrubs and my St. Ives scrubs with salicylic acid to keep my super smooth and perfect.

Like I mentioned before, I haven't had the chance to use other popular electronic facial scrubbers but at this rate I don't think I have to. I'm currently away for work and the Soniclear is the first and last thing I use. It's also waterproof, which is amazing, because I like to take care of my entire morning cleansing routine in the shower to maximize time and give me a few extra hours of sleep!

Organics Matcha Tea

Dec 2, 2014

I've become a huge tea drinker recently and love discovering new types and their beneficial properties. Green tea has been on my short list for a few years because it's a main ingredient in my detox tea. But even then I only ever used tea bags and never tried making it with tea leaves or powder so I was eager to give Kiss Me Organics' Ceremonial Macha Powder that I got from Amazon.com a try.

Just like most high grade green teas, the Macha powder is a major antioxidant, helps with energy, is a mild mood enhancer and stress reliever.

I'm really into the fact that it's in powdered form because now instead of having to brew and cool down green tea for smoothies I can just put the powder in easily. I also really like it's vibrant green hue. It helps keep my green juices from turning brown due to the carrots and beets that I add in.

Peter Thomas Roth Mini Mask Magic Trio

Nov 16, 2014

I've been on a serious shopping bender lately and I have nothing but the holiday season to blame. On today's trip to Sephora I saw what looked like the cutest and most useful new item ever: A Sephora Exclusive Mini Mask Magic Trio by Peter Thomas Roth.

I've been a fan of Peter Thomas Roth since I used their mineral powder sunscreen and then a bigger fan when I discovered the Max Sheer All Defense Lotion. So it's safe to say it's a brand I trust has quality products.

This trio was not only cute but it has peels in ingredients I never thought of using. Just like Ole Henriksens Power Peel has an almond polish and walnut scrub, this PTR has one a rose mask as well as a pumpkin enzyme one. Both ingredients are great because I've recently fallen deep in love with the smell and taste of roses and pumpkins are super festive!

One plus about this set is that the products aren't meant to be used as a system which makes the .5oz jars last a bit longer. I plan on using these each once a week along with my other cleansers that I use daily. I'm so excited to have added this to my skin care regiment because I take it super serious. There's a reason my coworkers think I'm 10 years younger than I am and that's my diligence and obsession with my skin.

So yea, it's worth it for sure. It costs $20 and it's a great intro into this amazing brand if you've never used any of their products. And if you have then you'll instantly know that it's worth it.

October Sephora Buys

Nov 10, 2014

I'm finally seriously updating my makeup and getting back into bright eyeliners and as I mentioned last month, I'm so glad that Sephora changed their eyeliner formula recently because this allows me to spend a bit less per liner and allows me to purchase one or two more!

Last month I did a super duper mini splurge and purchased three liners and one lip plumper. I'm really addicted to having slightly larger lips and really hate that Two Faced Cosmetics changed the formula of the Lip Injection. It used to give me the best effect ever but now it doesn't do a single thing. Insert single tear here.

I first heard of Soap & Glory in 2011 when I was at London Luton Airport catching a flight to Paris and I stopped into the Boots store to buy some stuff that I didn't need. I fell in love with their packaging and bought a ton of stuff that I'd be able to bring back home and show off. Fast forward to 2014 and now they're at every Sephora store with more products. Score!

While I adore their extended line of products and was really excited to get their Sexy Mother Pucker Lip Plumper it saddens me that it does nothing but give my lips some shine. Sadness. back to Sephora it goes.

The Sephora Retractable Water Proof Eyeliners will stay though. They're super pigmented, I don't need to use a lot in order to get the effect that I want and they're really creamy which means they don't pull on my eyelids. I purchased them in Glitter Green (forest green with silver glitter), Shimmer Navy (shimmering midnight blue) and Turquoise (shimmering bright aqua). They're great on their own, layered with black liner or paired with a more subtle eyeshadow of the same color.

Despite my canceling my subscription they ended up sending me (and then charging/refunding me) a box that contains two polishes and an eyeliner. When I asked Julep what I was to do with the items sent they said : trash it, keep it, give it away, whatever you want. So lucky for you guys I am giving it away!

My Running Belt Review

Sep 25, 2014

Lately I've been running more and more but was always bummed out that in order to listen to music I needed to wear my zip up sweater and while I adore it it is brutal to wear in 90 degree weather.

So when I had to chance to review My Running Belt I was over the moon. When I received it my first impression was that it was really thin but seemed super sturdy. I wasn't sure if I'd be able to fit my iPhone 4 in it but luckily I was.

The day after it arrived I took it out for a test run and haven't stopped since. It's thin enough that I could wear it under my tank or t-shirt when I go running and I don't have to deal with it slipping down past my thighs or ending up way above my waist. It stays put even when I'm wearing clothes that have a bit of stretch due to spandex and that's perfect for me.

They sell these in a few colors, yellow, pink and blue and while I love bright workout clothes I opted for the blue. After 3 weeks the belt is still in perfect condition and has become one of my most recommended products for runners so head on over to amazon and grab your now!

September Sephora Buys

I work in an office with young girls that are tragically wearing the wrong makeup. And when I say wrong I'm talking about brands, not colors or shades. I've had to learn over time that most drugstore brands just aren't work it and sometimes you have to spend a bit of money in order to get what you want. When I mention the cost of my liners and mascaras they practically vomit until I let them see not only how smooth they are to apply but also how pigmented and long lasting they are.

After sharing my most recent Sephora shopping bag with them and seeing the look of shock on their faces I decided to fill them in on affordable alternatives to the brands that I love so that can rock long last shadows and a 365 day glow to match!

Posh-$119

I've been a fan of Urban Decay's eyeliners ever since my friend +Paulette Romero introduced me to them many years ago. I can't remember a time before Urban Decay liners came into my life. I was a fan of the Sephora brand liners, I had tried Sue Devitt, but I can't remember a time when I used colored liners enough to be dedicated to a brand.

The great thing about these liners is that they last! It's so bad to admit this but in the past my NYC lifestyle meant staying out until the sun came up and on the rare days that I did touch my pillow it was always tinted with blue, green, black or purple due to my highly pigmented liners. Lucky for me these liners also stayed on my lids and I never had to do more but wipe the corners of my eyes and get ready to start my day again.

While Urban Decay holds the market for best colored eyeliner Tarte has taken over as my go-to liner for black. There's something really special about their SmolderEyes black liner that make everything else seem like a dollar store brand. Not only is their black super pigmented and stays looking fresh after hours of use. The good/bad thing about this liner is that once it's on you only have about 1 minute to smudge or adjust it in anyway because once it's on, it's on and doesn't like to go anywhere without a bit of elbow grease!

I've been searching for a highlighter/luminizer that worked well with my foundation but most of the ones I've tried in the past have been too watery, oily, had way too much shimmer or were just super thick. I was happy to find a happy medium with Stila's Illuminating Beauty Balm. I received this in the spring with Sephora's Sun Safety Kit but didn't really give it a shot until recently. I want to remain a nice healthy glow, real or not, throughout the fall and this is the perfect product for that. I'm a fan of mixing products so that they can be applied evenly and mixing this with my Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer gives me a perfect sunkissed glow that isn't too overpowering on any area of my face.

After falling in love with thick liners courtesy of Sue Devitt back in 2005. Years later I've gotten back into the swing of using a thick liner pencil as a highlighter or quick and easy eyeshadow when I'm commuting. In terms of these liners by Tarte I like to use them more as highlighters for my brow bone because they don't make them in the bright colors that I like. I also prefer to keep my colored liners thin so a thick one wouldn't work anyway.

After priming my lids I make sure to apply this liner, in Gunmetal, to the inner corners of my eyes and my brow bone before layering my multicolored shadows and liners.

Colors: Urban Decay in Loaded and Vice. Tarte in Onyx and Gunmetal

Pinch-$60

Sephora Collection 12 hr Wear Eyeliner- $10

Despite the fact that I turned my back on Sephora liners when I discovered Urban Decay's 24/7 liners I've got to give Sephora some credit these days. They've stepped up their game over the past few years and changed their eyeliner formula to a nice creamy texture instead of hard pencil one. The result is not only last color but color that goes on smooth. While they fully admit to not being a "24 hour" liner I can't say that these last more than 8. But it's not a big deal to re-apply and freshen them up if you put them on at 8am and plan to go out past 6pm. Plus the price makes it hurt a bit less if they happen to run out quicker than the pricier alternatives.

Tarte Bronze & Glow Bronzer and Cheek Tint- $16

If you're looking for an more cost efficient way to give your skin a nice glow Tarte's bronzer is the way to go. It's smaller and is dispensed in a small lip gloss style tube that let's you have a bit more control of the amount that you use. Along with Stila's Illuminator this product mixes really well with Laura Mercier's Tinted Moisturizer and helps give a nice every day glow.

Sephora Collection Jumbo 12 hr Wear Eyeliner- $14

Along with their thin pencils Sephora has changed their jumbo liners formula to continue the creamy trend. These come in a lot more colors than Tarte's jumbo liners and blend really nice so they can be used as a light shadow or highlighter equally. Because they have some staying power I like to use these as a base for my eyeshadows to help give them a different effect and to pop.

Colors: Sephora Collection in Go For A Ride, Purple Stilettos, Black Lace and Dark Taupe Shimmer

So there you have it ladies. Now run to your nearest Sephora store and scoop of some of these items. Or just head to your Sephora tab and shop away! Because you're always cruising the site. Right....? RIGHT!

StickerYou Review

Sep 10, 2014
About a month ago I was given the chance to receive two pages of customized stickers from StickerYou.com as well as offered the chance to run a giveaway on this site.

I have to say that now, a month later, I'm unable to do that. The reason for that is because I have had a lot of issues with their customer service not getting back to me when the code for the free product I was given wasn't working. It took about 2 weeks to get back to me on that so when I was finally able to place my order it's still far from being at my doorstep by the time this review was due.

In the end, I'm hoping that my order arrives and is good quality. Until then I can only speak of the customer service for the company which I have to say was a bit slow to getting back to me. Especially when it comes down to sending a product to a blogger that can help spread the word.

I'll write an update when I receive the labels and will post a contest if they will still allow it. I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Hello,  I'm Jen from Craftic and I'll be writing my very first guest post today!

Since Fall is around the corner, I thought it'd be fun to share what I'm planning on making these next few weeks before it gets chilly.

First up is the Knitted Neck Scarf by Martha Stewart.  It's a light alternative to a cowl and kinda perfect for the cooler months until it gets downright cold and you have to switch to something warmer.  The pattern is pretty easy to follow and this doesn't take much yarn at all.  You could definitely finish this over a weekend and have it ready as a gift in no time!

The next thing I'm planning to make is this super simple cowl.  I made up the pattern as I went for this one.  On size 10 needles, cast on 90 stitches and increase 2 stitches every 2 rows for 10 rows.  I prefer this structure since it's snug around the chin and then spreads out and sits well on the chest.  The pictured cowl is made from 2 yarns - one wool, one alpaca - knit together.  This is without a doubt incredibly cozy and warm.

How are you preparing for the cold months?  I'd love to hear about your knitting and crochet projects!

Jen

Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner in Brown(Out) Review & Giveaway

Aug 25, 2014
As a certified gothy princess black eyeliner is my best friend. I've found the deepest, long lasting, waterproof black out on the market and rarely use another color when doing my makeup. But last week I was redeeming some Sephora points and saw that I could get a mini of the Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner in a color called Brown(Out), which is a bronze liner with light shimmer, and had to grab not just one but two of them!

This eyeliner by Marc Jacob goes on super smooth because it's a gel and the color is very rich and intense. A little bit goes a long way with this little gem. The bottom of the pencil does double duty as a color indicator and a way have more of the liner pop up by giving it a gentle twist which you won't have to do a lot because the gel crayon is very dense and won't break off if you put a lot of pressure when you're using it.

I'm really happy to have been able to grab a mini version of this liner because I always thought it looked super cool in it's sleek silver case but had so many liners to finish before committing to a brand new set from another brand. Now I'm totally hooked and want to give one of my readers a chance to try them out as well!

For the next two weeks I'll be running a giveaway where one lucky reader with receive a mini version of the Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner in Brown(Out). Enter below and pass it a long! After the two weeks are up I'll announce the winner and the prize will be shipped out ASAP.

Good luck!

Organic Roasted Red Pepper & Tomato Soup Alternative

Aug 23, 2014
Pacific Organic Red Pepper Soup

Now that I'm back from vacation I need to drop the 13lbs I gained eating bagels, pizza and drinking tons of beer almost daily. My eating and workout plan began today with a 3 day liquid cleanse where Organic Roasted Red Pepper & Tomato Soup by Pacific was my only none juice yet liquid meal.

Post Vacation 30 Day Shred

Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred

Here I go again. As I've mentioned before I was recently away for a month and I mostly just ate and drank my weight in carbs. A few years ago that would not have been a problem but these days it totally is! While I was away I did run on the treadmill at my cousins place a few times and went to LA Fitness for a week straight thanks to a weekly pass but I totally ignored my own membership at 24 Hour Fitness. I actually ended up putting it on hold because I didn't want to spend money on something I wasn't going to use.

Fast Forward to today though. I'm back home and need to get myself back in shape. I gain weight easy and gained 13lbs while away. EEK! The only reason I'm not freaking out over it is because I was on vacation and nothing beats bagels and pizza in NYC. Nothing.

But I'm back now and I need to get on track. I'm starting things off with a 3 day liquid diet/cleanse where I'll be drinking juices made up primarily of things that will help flush out my system and I have a roasted red pepper and tomato soup that I made to enjoy for dinner so that I don't go to bed starving. I'm also going to drink tons and tons of water as well as make my favorite detox juice with a twist: adding some dandelion tea because of it's detoxifying properties.

Today, August 23nd, I weigh 160 lbs and hope to get that down by flushing out my system and kicking my workouts into high gear. My goal is to be at my "clothes fitting weight" of 143 lbs sooner rather than later.

Day 1 of the 30 Day Shred was awful. I was only able to do 10 of the 20 minutes because my legs were burning instantly but this was after a 25 min/2 mile run so I'm not beating myself up over it. I'm sore for sure but it's going to be well worth it since I hate doing weights at the gym because everyone wants to be my trainer and I'm just not into that. I plan on doing the shred and cardio interchangeably, or together, depending on my mood.

Wish me luck guys! Posting my weight on the web only means one thing: I mean business!!!

Baked Brocooli and Cauliflower

Aug 17, 2014

A few months ago I was on a huge clean eating kick and wanted to make the most out of the items in my fridge. I was also working and hitting the gym a lot and didn't want to bother with preparing an involved meal that included lots of cleaning afterwards. Thanks to the wonders of frozen veggies I quickly whipped up this delicious meal that I have my family in NYC obsessing over. I've seriously made this more times than I can count in the short time that I've been here. This is a really easy side dish to make. I personally eat it as a main dish though because sometimes I can't be bothered with preparing and cleaning up after meat.

 Ingredients

-Frozen Broccoli
-Frozen Cauliflower
-One White Onion
-One Garlic Head
-Mozzarella Cheese
-Olive Oil

First things first:  I chop the onion and garlic I throw everything into a baking dish, pour some olive oil in it and mix it with my hands.  I used to put it all in a large zip lock bag to shake it all up but found that my hands did the trick much better!

I always make sure to overdo it with the shredded cheese on top just for that extra bit of cheesiness and crunch. I love cheese!

The next step is to throw this in the oven for 30-45 minutes at 350.

I like to put tons of garlic in mine, as well as red pepper flakes, but I've been making this for kids so I had to put a little extra work one or two times. I decided to saute´ some garlic in olive oil and red pepper flakes. Yumness!!!

This smelled like heaven!

The final project. Crispy, cheesy and garlicky. The great thing about this dish is that it can easily be reheated in the same baking pan or elsewhere.

P.S. I don't really measure when it comes to something so simple and neither should you. Try this, you will love it!
