New Year, New Gear

New Year, New Gear

Every time the new year rolls around people make resolutions to get in shape, stay in shape or if they let themselves go, get back into shape. But we all know how the story goes: gym memberships are purchased in January, carbs are banished and all sorts of crazy diet plans are made. Now even though these plans go out the window by February it's always nice to start a new workout regiment with super cute clothes so here are some items that will make you look cute at the gym or track for as long as you go.

This weather that we're having is super weird. It's warm in NYC (for December) and chilly in SoCal so running in short sleeves it not an option. This cute jacked from Mountain Hardwear is just $58 and has pockets in the front, is made with material to keep you cry and my favorite thing ever: thumbholes, so you can make sure your hands always stay warm while running.

Every woman should own more than 5 sports bras so why not use the new year as a time to grab some. The $35 Nike Pro Classic Bra has a really cool design, offers great support so you're not bouncing all over the place and is also great for medium-impact sports.

When it comes to running, sweatpants are so out of the question. Not only are they not cute but they do nothing for warmth. Having tights that help regulate the body's temperature while running along with breathable mesh ventilation panels make these $70 North Face GTD Tights totally worth it.

Running shoes should be changed frequently and it's really important to buy ones that won't damage your feet while you're pounding the pavement. At Famous Footwear you can grab this awesome pair of indigo/pink kicks with gel cushioning system for $60.

I know so many people obsessed with their FITBIT and if I still lived in NYC I would too. I'm sure I'd log over 10K a day just going about my day. So for those that don't have to walk this is a great way to get off the couch or office chair and set a few goals. These range from cheap to super pricey for designer ones but the Flex Wireless one is a good price at $80.

Running belts are super underrated because they're so close to the fanny pack but they're great for people who run in the sun because they avoid the needs for a jacket to hold their keys or phone as well as the horrid armband tan. FlipBelt's Small Running and Workout Belt comes in 9 different colors so at $30 any serious runner can get a few in their favorite colors.

September 23rd marks the end of summer but thankfully, I live in sunny SoCal so I pretty much get to enjoy the sun 10 months out of the year. But living in New York City never stopped me from wearing my beloved minis. I haven't work pants since 2010. Yes, seriously! I still own a bunch but aside from yoga pants to lounge or workout I'm always seen in dresses or skirts.

I suffered for fashion during my time in NYC. During the cold winter months I could always be seen zooming in or out of a train station in a mid-thigh pea coat, tights and boots. Sometimes I'd even double up on tights because I lost the ability to be comfortable in a pair or pants or jeans.

Here are some minis that would look great solo and with tights when it get chillier out.Their great materials and different cuts would make any of these a great addition to your wardrobe.

1.  Textured Cotton Skirt-$46.00

2. Flared Jacquard Mini Skirt- $99.99

3. Alko Ruffle Mini Skirt- $238.00

4. Mini Skirt with Flounce- $69.90

5. Wrap-front Skirt- $34.99

Every year I make the 'I'm going to wear pants this year' announcement and it never happens. With the cute minis in this post and the countless others that I'm drooling over...I'll see if I can spare a day in 2016.

September is an interesting month in New York City. The crazy weather makes picking out an outfit a little taxing. Wearing flip flops or sandals is usually out of the question but it's too hot for knee length boots.

This is where booties come in. We love how versatile they can be. You can pair them with tights of any thickness, cute tweed shorts and of course minis! We also love how booties can be very rock-n-roll, professional or casual. With so many to choose from we combed through some of our favorite sites for footwear and found a few styles we think everyone needs in their shoe collection.

1.  Tommy Hilfiger Women's Oxford Shooties- $89.00

2. TOMS Suede High Wedge Booties-$98.00

3. Women's Punch Lug Heel Lace-Up Boot-$49.99

4. Guess Collina Bootie-$79.95

5. Women's Batone Wedge Bootie- $59.99

I can't wait to get my hands on a few of these booties. I keep trying to figure out with pair is my favorite but that's impossible to do. I predict I'll have all of them on my shoe rack by the end of October!

Which pair is your favorite and how will you wear em during these faux chilly days to come?

We love H&M. It's such an affordable store that's got great style and long lasting clothes (if you know how to take care of them). Jenniffer and I have very different body types but somehow even with a 2-3 size difference she's always been able to rummage through my things when I was living in NYC or whenever I'm in town and not look like she's swimming in my clothes. As a shopaholic I'm constantly adding a ton of new pieces to my seasonal wardrobe and always begin with H&M.

After perusing their site a few days ago here are my top pics for updating anyones fall wardrobe without breaking the bank!

1. Fitted Jacket in Navy Blue- $38.00

2. Textured Skirt in Rust Red- $39.99

3. Sleeveless Dress in Dark Blue- $34.99

4. Jersey Blazer in Light Pink- $34.99

5. Fitted Dress in Dark Gray- $34.99

6. Stretch Trousers in Black- $38.00

7. Pleated Skirt in Red- $24.99

As a borrow-holic, I know that Jenniffer can't wait for me to head over to NYC with a few of these items so she can try to permanently borrow them. But what do you guys think? Are you ready to add some awesome and affordable pieces to your wardrobe in preparation for these upcoming chillier months? Let me know!

I know we all love summer for the suns wonderful rays, the awesome tans and the outfits that help us show off all our hard work at the gym but we can't deny that the chill in the air when the sun sets means one thing: Fall! And then that means cute fall outfits will b everywhere. EVERYWHERE!

Fall is my absolute favorite season because it lets me wear my micro minis with my fun and funky tights that I buy at Primark every time I go to the UK. It also lets me wear my favorite fabrics and textures which are wool and tartan. And boots. Can't forget the boots. I have over 30 pairs of boots and booties alone that have pretty much gone unworn since I moved to LA over two years ago.

Now H&M basically owns the market in fall weather clothes and I pretty much go broke every August and September (and October, November...you get it!) buying a bunch of new gear for the fashion shows I like to give the streets of New York City. While I normally do dark colors and reserve my pinks for a nice leather mix but some of these pieces have me really excited to try it for a change.

H&M's Autumn 2014 collection not only includes the typical wool items like capes, hats and boots but they included some flowery prints, creams and light pinks to help you ease into the new season better. They turned a simple thing like a tank top in this cool cut out tank that has mesh at the shoulders as well as at the v. Or if you want something that's more of an all in one they have this beautiful sleeveless dress in a crepe weave with fun diagonal pleats. It can be paired with a dark or light blazer and would look amazing with booties!

I recommend heading out to your nearest H&M ASAP to grab some of these pieces before they're sold out or if you aren't near one and have a few of their items at home you can always check out their website to order online. Just remember that regular H&M gear and their Divided collection are sized a bit different. They also run big on their bulkier items such as their coats. I'm a size 4 in all of my H&M coats/jackets but a size 6 in their dresses.

Happy Shopping!

Mad About Plaid by Forever 21
Forever 21 knows how to pull at my heartstrings. Tartan plaid is my absolute favorite pattern ever. It can let me be mod, school girl, rocker and makes me feel like I'd fit in perfectly in the UK.

Fall in NYC lends itself to plaid because even if it's a really light material it always looks warm and cozy so check out this look book that I put together and then run to your nearest Forever 21 to find the perfect plaid piece to compliment your Autumn 2014 wardrobe!

Spring 2014 Essentials

Spring is finally here which means it's time to lighten up our wardrobes. Every color can be worn in any season, like winter whites and summer darks, but lightening the fabrics and adding some floral patterns are the key to a perfect spring/summer wardrobe.

As gothy as I am my favorite pattern to start wearing when the tights come off are florals. They pretty much exude spring and help be start the season fresh and fun. Paired with linen, lace or light cotton and it's the perfect thing to wear when the weather starts to cool down.

Floral shoes, like the satin peep toe pumped by Ted Baker , may seem intimidating at first but paired with a light dress and white blazer and everyone will wish they were bold enough to purchase a pair. To keep warm during the chilly spring nights a white blazer, similar to this H&M Single Breasted Blazer, is enough to keep you stylish and warm. Finally we have a piece in one of my favorite colors from last spring that is with us yet again: a mint fit and flare skirt. This mini trumpet skirt by Miss Selfridge screams spring and is just waiting to be worn with a lace tank, strappy sandals or wedges and a love of spring!

If you're having trouble with this winter to spring transition that we're having and would like some help drop us a line at The Closet Fashionista and if you're in NYC or LA we can personally help you make sense of your available options.

Celebrity Fashion Spotlight: Lauren Conrad

Celebrity Fashion Spotlight: Lauren Conrad

I've been a fan of Lauren Conrad's style since her days on The Hills and love that she developed an affordable line for Kohl's. LC was always effortlessly fashionably dressed and her fashion line exudes it. LC Lauren Conrad's spring collection is fun, flirty, clean and has multi use pieces so you can show off your new buys with coworkers during the week and friends on the weekends.  Her items are priced between $7-$65, with the Floral Fit & Flare Dress in the center currently on sale for $47.99.

PS: Along with clothing, shoes, and accessories she also has a bedding line that is great as an alternative to the pricier Shabby Chic line that I absolutely adore.

Celebrity Fashion Spotlight: Victoria Beckham

Our second celebrity fashion spotlight is on non other than Victoria Beckham. She went from being one of he least favorite Spice Girls to a fashion icon and finally a designer. Even though she's never been a curvy woman while in the spotlight it doesn't stop her designs to cater to those that aren't particularly stick thin. Her items are on the pricey side but if you have to have one designer item I would give her pieces the same consideration as Versace, DVF or Chanel. Unlike other celebrities that lend their names to a label just to have crazy markups the Victoria Beckham Collection is worth every penny. I purchased the black cotton dress (on sale, of course!) a few months ago and I did not regret the 3 digit price because the quality and craftsmanship is evident in every inch.

I think every woman should have a few pieces in her wardrobe from Victoria Beckham. Nothing makes me feel as powerful and accomplished as wearing a high end item that I was able to pay for myself. We're sure it'll have the same effect on you!

Celebrity Fashion Spotlight: Jessica Simpson

Celebrities love to expand their resumes and ways to double their earnings  by slapping their names on perfumes, clothes, handbags, etc. Some celebrities fail while other flourish. A perfect example of that is Jessica Simpson. Gone are the days where she is just known as a singer because now her name can be seen in more than the CD aisle.
When she first came on to the scene I paid no mind because I had little faith in her designs but the more time passes the more I give her credit. Her fashion line is is great because not only is it reasonably priced (dresses are in the $60-150 range) but the cuts are perfect for someone looking to stay stylish and fun without trying too hard.

Her pieces can easily be mixed and matched. Mix them up with any of her fragrances from her Fancy line and you're ready to hit the town!

My favorite is the white cutout dress with the sheer detailing. What's yours?
