Making Plans for Diane

Aug 29, 2017

Today marks the start of a new year. I have 365 days until I'm a year older so I want to make the best out of this one. I have so many things that I want to do that I need to be organized. I can fall off s wagon super easy so have a planner is exactly what I need.

I've been seeing planners everywhere and while I'm obsessed with Bando I wasn't able to grab one of them as they sold out super fast. So I searched the web for the perfect one and luckily this cute one came to my rescue. I was able to get this Goal Digger planner for $25 and with the help of my cute pens I was ready to get to work.

Along with my planner I got these super cute pens to make writing more fun. Because my planner isn't a basic black and white one using colored pens gives it a bit more life and makes me want to write in it a bit more. Every week when I sit down to make my plans I choose colors that match my current mood and I write things that I actually plan on doing.

As per usual, I write down appointments and the like on the left side of my daily entries and things that I want to do that day, or by that day, on the right. This helps me get prepped for my week as there is nothing more satisfying than being able to check something off. It also lets me see all of my submission due dates physically.

I know that everything is digital these days and my iPhone is perfect for keeping myself on track but there's something I find really fun about writing goals down and being able to check them off. This year I plan on being a true goal digger!

Activated Charcoal Konjac Sponge

Aug 21, 2017

The new dream team

I started using these konjac sponges two summers ago when they came into my radar as a way to wash my face without needing cleanser. That's something I was super skeptical about! I've never washed without cleanser---ever! But lo and behold, Pooter's Cache was given to me to try out and give my thoughts on it.

Initially, none of the sponges that I've seen on the market mentioned that it could be used with a cleanser so I was really happy when I saw that this one was promoted differently. I'm a sucker for a product and old habits die hard! But because I wanted to see how the sponge made my face feel I chose to use it for two straight days without using any cleanser or makeup! I did of course use my argan oil moisturizer afterwards because I'm trying to use it every single day no matter what.

and it's pretty huge too!

The result of using this sponge was that my face did feel nice and smooth and I got to exfoliate my face naturally which, as you can see from my photo above, is where my skincare is headed. It's a fun new tool that looks a bit tricky when dry but once it's nice and wet it's ready to get to work on those dead skin cells and that's a win. Plus, the fact that it's a natural product means it's one of the products that will stick with me after December since I plan on going 100% natural by the end of 2017.

Cute Stationary Alert: Sharon Seaon Levi

Jun 6, 2017

As much as I love to write, I've always been really bad at giving cards because I never really find the right ones that I want to share with people. At least not at super affordable prices that is. This is why I usually end up scribbling something and not having pride in the cards that I give people. If having pride in cards is a thing. Is it..? Well, apparently, it is!

I recently got this beautiful gift card package from Sharon Seaon Levi and am in love with them. As are some of my followers on Instagram and Facebook. The box that the cards come in stands out so much that I like to display it on my counter because once I've used us the cards, I plan on keeping the box as a little keepsake or for more stationary that goes with this theme.

The cards come in a reusable pull-out box that's made really well so it's super sturdy. It's strong and pretty enough to last as well as have on display. Trust me, you DO NOT want to shove this in a drawer or closet. Once you open the box there are four compartments, one for each set of cards. There are Thank You cards, Happy Birthday ones, cards with hearts on them and one that is super special, reminding someone that today is the perfect day to start living your dream. That one is my favorite one because I'm all about being positive these days so it's the most fitting.

Each card is tied together with a clear bead and gets put in an envelope that has a gold foil leaf, the same as the feather on top of the box. The quality of the cards is really high and I think I'm going to have a hard time figuring out who to give these to because they're meant to be given to people that appreciate packaging.

Sharon Seaon Levi is selling these for $39 which I think is a super steal. I'm hoping that she comes out with more products because if these are an indication of where the brand wants to be headed then I'm excited to see what's in store. Any stationary fan needs to jump on these because they make for great gifts and amazing things to display on their desk!

Back in the Kitchen with Cute Cooking Accessories

May 24, 2017

I've been getting back in the kitchen these days but have been slacking on taking photos because I haven't been gaga over my tools. They're old, scratched up and plain old bland. I guess being in boxes for months does that to things! Thankfully though I've been getting into blogging again hardcore and was able to score these super cute measuring cups (and spoons!) from Sweet Home & Kitchen.

This measuring kit comes in with two separate rings- one for cups and another for spoons- along with a brush that can be used for basting. Everything is stainless steel and the handles are really comfortable and don't look or feel cheap. Because I love kitchen tools, I was going to buy a measuring cup in addition to getting these but I'm really happy with the 10 cups/spoons that this came with and I won't be needing more anytime soon.

I'm totally going to get into cooking a lot for my blog once I'm done with my move and these will be making tons of appearances so be on the look out for them and if you want to add some a bit of color to your food posts, def give these a try!

5 Skincare Products to Perk Your Up & Calm You Down

May 16, 2017
Wake Up & Calm Down

Clean & Clear struck gold when they came out with this     product. Not only was it a much needed additional to the world of skincare but it helps perk you up with the help of Vitamin C and ginseng. I like to use this with my Neutrogena cleasnser because I get my skin clean and scrubbed in one shot!

Speaking of Neutrogena, when I found out that they had a Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes- Night Calming is similar to their regular towelettes. It does the job of making you face squeaky clean with the addition of a nice calming scent I was super excited because I need all the help I can get to help me be relaxed.

While this product doesn't come out and say that it is  calming in any way it does have lavender essential oils which are soothing. I love using Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate before bed because it's done wonders for my skin super fast. I naturally have AMAZING skin but insomnia is starting to take its toll so going to work looking refreshed is an amazing feeling.

Origins Ginzing Refreshing Scrub Cleanser is another way to perk up while washing your face. This scrub has my absolute favorite ingredient to use on my body: coffee! I've been using ground coffee to scrub my face and body for years so it's nice to use it without having my bathtub look like I was rolling around in mud all day. Along with the awesome ingredient the scent is so heavenly. The grapefruit, lemon and spearmint scent helps to perk up my skin in the mornings.

Michael Todd is a brand that I discovered last year thanks to them giving me their Soniclear to try out. Since then I've purchased a few as gifts as well as received a smaller travel sized one. Their Lavender Bar Soap is heavenly. I love lavender for the scent and it's benefits. Using this soap right before bed lets me be clean and smelling really great before I head to bed. Tossing and turning isn't so bad when you smell like lavender!

Giving Your Skin Some TLC

Summer is here and for those of you that are afraid of waxing, it means you're going to be risking razor burns on your underarms and legs. And then there's the face for you guys. Having something to put on your skin afterwards can be a lifesaver in terms of preventing razor burns and the like. The Maywood Creek Essentials Ingrown Hair Treatment is what I've been using lately because argan oil is kind of pricey and I don't want to use it all up super fast. I like that it's got a ton of essential oils that I'm already obsessed with: lemon, tea tree, lavender, and also has some soothing aloe vera in it as well.

The pros of this treatment are that it's a serum so it's not greasy, won't drip when it's being applied and won't be too thick either. I've been pulling away from lotions lately because I want things that I can apply easily without making my skin feel heavy, and this does just that. I also like that it's got some of my favorite oils in it. I've been huge on essential oils over the last year so having tea tree, lemon and lavender all in one product mixed well is great. I also like the addition of soothing aloe vera.

As far as the cons go, I have none yet. This has been really helpful with my KP as the skin on my calves is super smooth. Because of it I've been smoothing it over my upper arms to retain that moisture. Now I can't say 100% that it's helping that on its own because I've been using argan oil in those areas exclusively for the last couple of months but I will say that it is a great help!

I was able to get this from Amazon because Maywood Creek sent me this product to try out and I'm going to keep using it throughout to summer and hope it continues to work consistently.

I *AM* Very Busy, Right?

May 7, 2017
I *AM* Very Busy

My Bando obsession runs deep. Deeper than (insert super deep thing here). My obsession for their I Am Very Busy products runs even deeper. I like to think that I truly am very busy. I'm busy sleeping, deciding on how many shots of espresso I want in my coffee, and most importantly, busy deciding on what to eat on any given day.

I've been slowly growing my bando collection and decided to do it one theme at a time because I don't want things that I love to get discontinued before I'm ready to let them go. If you're super busy, or like pretending that you are, check out some of my favs from this collection!

Carbless Cinco de Mayo Recipes

May 5, 2017

I'm all about tacos. Love em to death! But sadly, I'm not a huge fan of carbs. They make me bloated, gain weight and a few hours after I eat them I start to feel really weird.

For Cinco de Mayo this year I decided to keep the taco tradition alive by having a feast without the carby tortillas. I made two small meals in order to have variety and have something to munch on throughout the day. The two meals were cheese shelled tacos and Mexican stuffed meatballs. Both were super easy to make and a total hit!

I made things a bit simple by using the sample ingredients and they were both really easy to make. I started with the meatballs because once the meat was seasoned I had to let it sit in the fridge for a few hours to let the salt, pepper, onions and hot sauce to really get into the meat. When everything was prepped I was ready to get started. Here are my two quick Carbless Cinco de Mayo recipes:

Ingredients

Ground beef
Onions
Garlic
Tomatoes
Cilantro
Lime
Cheddar cheese
Salt
Pepper
Avocado

Cheese Shell Tacos

  1. Season the beef with salt, pepper, onions, garlic and hot sauce. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  2. Grate cheese to make taco shells. Refrigerate until ready to use
  3. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees
  4. Spoon grated cheese into non stick baking mat
  5. Cook cheese in oven for 15 minutes or until they're full melted and spread
  6. Press a paper towel onto to cheese to remove grease
  7. Remove cheese from mat and hang over a spoon quickly--don't let them start to cool before you do this.
  8. Cook the seasoned meat until fully cooked
  9. Once cheese hardens--in about 15 minutes--put them on a taco stand to get ready for toppings
  10. Top with meat, avocados, tomatoes, cilantro and hot sauce.

Meatball Taco

  1. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Once the meat is seasoned form into round balls with an opening in the middle
  3. Stuff with avocados, cheese, tomatoes, cilantro and hot sauce.
  4. Cover the "toppings" with meat, being sure to not have anything sticking out and that everything is completely covered
  5. Place meatballs on baking mats on drying rack over baking mat to keep its shape

  6. Cook meatballs for 20-40 minutes. The liquid from the hot sauce and tomatoes will keep the meatballs from getting dry while letting it cook all the way through. Be sure to use your food thermometer to ensure high heat within the meatballs so that you don't take them out prematurely.
  7. Remove from oven when fully cooked and let cool until ready to eat
  8. Serve with hot sauce and enjoy.

Come on, tell me these don't look super easy to make?  I love being able to eat food that's packed with flavor without succumbing to added sugar, sodium and of course, carbs. I never thought I'd be okay eating something that tasted like a taco without a crunch or soft tortilla. Nor did I expect to use so much. And by 'so much' I mean even a drop, because I was never a huge fan of it until I came out to SoCal and started eating all the yummy food it had to offer.

¡Sabor! Hot Sauce is super potent and flavorful sauce that worked well well as a part of my recipes. I like that I was able to use it inside my meatball as well as on the side in order to give the outside a bit of a kick.I like to cook with garlic but refrained from doing so because this sauce had already had a good amount in it. I'm telling you, if you're into hot sauce, you need to get on this. Head on over to their site to read more about it and order a bottle or two. It's not only a super great condiment, but adds a ton of flavor to any recipe!

In order to check the temperature of my meat while it was cooking I made sure to use my handy thermometer by Marshcone. This is my first time using one so I was excited to give it a spin while I made meatballs, since sometimes I've taken them out of the oven because the outside cooked a lot quicker than the inside. I like my meat medium rare but only when it comes to steaks. Meatballs and burgers are a whole other ballgame!

What is great about this thermometer is that it makes it super clear to know what temperatures you need the meat the be. Not only does it comes with batteries but it give you all the settings for beef, chicken and fish and it gives a heads up on what the temperature needs to be depending on how rare you like your meat.

It also has a hold button which was great for me because I had to put it in the oven and didn't want the temperature to start changing once I took it out. I have to give this two thumbs up! It's easy to hold, the temperature tube is long enough to reach anything I may have in the back of the oven (if I happen to be cooking lots of food), easy to read display and the hold button. You can grab one of these from Amazon just like I did if you want to give them a shot.

All in all, this carbless Cinco de Mayo was a total win for me and I can't wait to keep my carbless life in tact as more holidays start rolling in!

My Morning Green Juice

May 1, 2017

Oh juicing, I hate how it gets such a bad rap. First, people think it's only for weight loss and go into a long rant about why it's unhealthy to just drink juice. I normally let them go on and on until I remind them that I eat. And I eat a lot! But for the last two weeks I've been getting up earlier and giving myself more time between working and and heading to work in order to make a green juice.

Unless I'm super hungover I can't eat anything before 11am so having a juice after my workout fills me up and holds me over until lunch. A few years ago I did a juice cleanse with my cousin and it had me juicing beets, oranges, pineapples, the works. But 1: I'm not a huge fan of fruits and 2: fruits have TONS of sugar! On the flip side I was never a big fan of veggies until I joined my cousin in the cleanse. Before I started juicing I would die if i saw beets or celery in my food. And ginger? No way. I didn't want that anywhere near me. But now I love those and put tons of celery and some ginger in my morning juice.

Like I said, I'm not a fan of fruits but a juice made with celery, kale, spinach and cucumbers isn't the tastiest thing ever but when lemon and green apples are added it's like a whole new world. Suddenly it becomes something I always want more of instead of something I have to force feed myself. I used to always put carrots in mine but for some reason I stopped. Maybe it's because they made my beautiful juice look really gross. Okay not maybe, that's totally the reason.

Anyway, here's some green juice porn for you to look at along with the 'recipe' below.

Ingredients
Spinach
Kale
Celery
Cucumber
Swiss Chard
Green Apple
Ginger
Lemon

This is a juice so there really isn't much to it but before I put the leafy greens through the juicer I steam them for about five minutes. I do this because it's supposed to help the body absorb more of the iron. I also always squirt lemon on them after because vitamin c helps absorb even more iron. For me this is imperative because of my iron deficiency*. I also chase the leafy greens with lemon while I juice because it lets the juicer break it down better. I sometimes cheat by wrapping them around lemon wedges since the mouth of my juicer is so big. Also don't ask me how much of what is in it. I aside from always using a whole apple, cucumber and half a lemon the rest is just however much I think will fill a jar. I do have a food scale that I've never used though so I might weight everything one day for you guys.

I can practically juice everything whole but I like chopping.

This loud and scary beast doesn't photograph well

No filter, just good lighting and beautiful greens

The aftermath. What the veggies look like after extraction

Look at that amazing color! There's no way anyone can see that and not want to taste it. I love how the apple makes the earthy taste go away and the kick from the ginger. Because this isn't a cold press juicer it ends up being slightly cooler than room temperature which is great because I can't drink warm juice. The Vitamix is a great appliance for smoothies and soups but I can't ever get a smooth juice out of it and of course without ice it's always really warm and that's just gross.

If I don't chop the veggies and not including the time it takes to clean the juicer this takes about 10 minutes tops and I can finish drinking it while I'm getting ready for work much easier than I can with pancakes or an omelet. And then again, I'm getting what my body needs in one delicious and organic drink. Now let's just hope it sticks this time!

*Before anyone says popping a pill is better be aware that the body only takes in a certain amount of iron in that form. Trust me, I've done my research on that. Having cold hands and feet, along with always feeling tired isn't fun.

Mini Cheese Shelled Tacos

I love tacos but being on a no/low carb diet means I have to stay away from them and pretty much all the Mexican food that I adore. Before I started thing whole thing I was eating tacos for lunch 2-3 times a week. And I always had three of them: two carne asada ones and one fried fish taco. Ah-maize-ing! But alas, not carbs=no tortillas while also= no tacos. Or so I thought!

Thanks to the handy dandy internet I stumbled across a recipe for tacos using cheese for a shell on Buzzfeed. I'm a cheese addict so I was really excited about giving this a shot. During my first week of keeping my carbs to a minimum I was creatively cooking everyday and this is just one of the many things that I made and will now have to perfect!

Ingredients
Parmesan Cheese
Mozzarella Cheese
Avocado
Mahi-mahi
Spinach
Tomatoes
Salt
Pepper
Red Pepper Flakes
EVOO

I was really happy to know that making this was super easy. I didn't do any measuring for the cheese so I made a bunch of piles assuming they would spread. I mixed the parmesan and mozzarella because I thought they would be better than cheddar, even though cheddar would have made it look more like a taco shell.

I used a non stick baking mat that is great for baking pretty much everything. I love using it for the rare times that I make cookies because I always manage to burn them. Argh

I put some red pepper flakes in with the cheese because I put them in almost everything and I wanted to give the shell a little bite. Once those were mixed into the cheeses it was time to hit the oven for about 10 minutes at 350 degrees.

I have to say that I expected the cheese to spread but I was terribly wrong. The cheese didn't cook as much as I wanted to after the 10 minutes so I was able to take a spatula and spread them out a little so that I'd have more of a surface to work with.

I left the cheese in the oven for five more minutes and took them out because I didn't want them to burn. My apartment smelled amazing. I mean, it's cheese!

I had to have everything ready to go when the shells needed to be shaped because the cheese started to harden super fast. As it was I had to pop a few in the microwave because they got a bit stiff so the time between removing them from the oven, blotting out the grease and getting them shaped had to be less than 2 minutes. No joke!

While the cheese shells were hardening I got to work on what would actually be in the tacos. I used my staples: avocados and tomatoes and shredded spinach. I used mahi-mahi for the meat and that was cooking with garlic and a bit of olive oil--nothing too crazy! I seasoned the tomatoes with salt and pepper and then waited for the shaped shells to cool off.

Can we discuss how awesome this is? The fact that I'm able to have tacos while on a low carb diet is pretty amazing. The dried up shells weren't oily to the point where I had to wash my hands immediately after which was great.

How amazing do these tacos look? They were the perfect size for me because I haven't been able to eat so much in one siting because my lack of carbs changed my appetite. I opted against using sour cream as well as shredded cheese because I mean c'mon, a person can really only have so much cheese at once.

I'm really happy with how they turned out. Although I initially wanted them a bit bigger I realized that these were the perfect size for someone who loves to eat but doesn't want to overdo it. I'm definitely going to add these to the list of finger foods that I have on the menu when I have get-togethers. Their size make them a really great finger food and the shell is packed with tons of flavor.

Next time I make these I'm going to make sure that I have cilantro instead of spinach and will throw some hot sauce in with the cheese to give it a nice little kick.

Coming Up Roses

Apr 30, 2017

I recently moved into a new apartment that has huge built in shelves in the bathroom. I thought about using them just for my linens but decided to make them a bit more girly by making use of some of the items I've purchased for shoots. The first theme I decided to do was roses because I secretly adore the color pink. I also received an amazing Chloe perfume set for Christmas and their bottles designs are meant to be displayed.

After a trying year I've been focused on finding ways to calm my mind, create a sense of peace and have feel good vibes so while I always liked the scent of roses, I started to like it even more when I read about how great it was for the senses. It aids in depression by boosting self esteem and help relieve anxiety and i's a great aphrodisiac--trust me, I know. Wearing my Chloe perfume drove my last boyfriend nuts!

With all of that it's only natural that I want at least one room in my apartment to be dedicated to subconsciously making me feel good even though I'm never there for more than 30 minutes at a time. And not only does the essence of roses make my mind feel great but I absolutely adore walking into my bathroom and looking at my perfect little shelf. Here's what I was able to get in order to put this shelf together. I received a lucite tray a few months ago and thought it was just what I needed to take great photos and I was right. I was finally able to get the perfect white, or any color background that I wanted for my shoots. But once I got my light box I didn't need it anymore and thought it would be a great way to display my favorite products.

1. Chloe Perfume Box Set- This is one of my favorite Christmas presents from this past year. This has been my signature scent since 2014 and I had finally ran out of my original bottle. I love this set because it came with the lotion, a small travel size and it a cute tin box. I was going to use the box to hold arts and craft items but having it on display is so much better

2. Artificial Rose Petals- Over the summer I had a great idea for a post on scents and bought rose petals for a video that has yet to be properly edited-whoops! Anyway, I'm not sure if I will ever use these again so I didn't know what to do with them but I know that I can't have these tucked away because I'll forget about them.

3. Dr. Bronner's Castile Soap- I've touted this brand before and I will do it again. I'm in love with this companies products, especially the ones that are rose scented. These bar soaps are great for the shower or on a bathroom sink in a cute tray.

4. Bracelets- I love bracelets but I can't wear them because I work on a computer all day and end up putting them off to the side. They're cute when I want to hang out with my friends but wearing one of them everyday is a no-no. When I saw these at ban.do I kinda lost it though and needed to have them. I was also in my breakup shopping binge so I had to have them even more. I'm glad I snagged these when I did because they're no longer being sold on the site. While the colors aren't all pink or rosy I think they add a nice touch.

5. Peter Thomas Roth Rose Stem Cell Face Mask- I had this for almost six months before I actually used it because it was an impulse buy. Once I got into the scent of roses I decided to give this a try. Not only do I love how hydrated my skin is the scent is heavenly. I like wearing it overnight sometimes in lieu of my retinol cream just to change things up a bit.

There you have it! I've already started on my lavender shelf but I'm still searching for more products in order to consider it complete. I also have others that I want to create themes for because I think only having two out of four isn't going to work so keep an eye out for the rest!
