My Fascination Street

Last week I touched on my beauty essentials for the woman that likes to splurge as well as the one that likes to save and today I'm going to write about the little extras we can all use.

I adore cosmetics. I find it very therapeutic to sit in front of a mirror and enhance my features. Primers, tinted moisturizers, eyeshadows and mascaras are all essential for perfectly made face and if anyone takes one thing from what I say it's that all of those items are needed. But once you've mastered the art of showcasing a flawless face you can start playing with some extra colors and enhancements that I'm listing below.

1.Too Faced Lip Injection-$22
This item is one that you might think is totally unnecessary but it really is for anyone that wants to add a hint of color to their lips, which i highly recommend as well. The best thing about this item is that it dries the lips out while you're wearing it which makes any color applied stick. You should always apply this before your tinted gloss because it expands the lips and lets the color seep into all the natural cracks that you have. After the effete wears off you can apply another coat of said gloss an voila! Color that doesn't come off or gets tacky and stick to everything. The burning sensation is bearable and the plumping is seen right away and lasts a good couple of hours.

2. bareMinerals Blush in Sweetheart Rose-$19
This blush by bareMinerals is a great item to help the contours of the face stand out. I have naturally high cheekbones but when I wear this it makes me look like I'm showing off! I used to wear this over my mineral foundations but felt that it looked too unnatural. Instead I applied it after my primer but before the foundation to keep it from being so bright and from fading too quickly. Now that I use tinted moisturizer and then a finishing power I just use it right before the powder. I only use it on the highest points of my cheekbones and a bit at the tip of my nose. I wear this during the colder months because I feel it's more suited for that.

3. bareMinerals Prime Time Primer Shadow in Bronzed Twig-$18
This primer has saved my life! Before brands like Tarte, Sephora and WetnWild changed their formulas to make super high pigmented shadows products like this and Urban Decay's Potion were a godsend. The reason this beats Urban's primer is because it is serious stuff. First, I love that it comes in different shades. This is really great for enhancing the base colors of every eyeshadow possible but even the base one is good enough for all colors. A teeny bit goes a long way and you can cover the area between your lash line up to your brow bone with just a drop. You have to be ready to blend it in quickly though because once it dries it sets and only makeup remover gets rid of it. How amazing is that? My trick is to get my fingers warm by placing them under my thigh for a few minutes because the heat helps to blend it a bit quicker. Another plus of this primer is that it acts like a highlighter and works on every skin tone.

4. Lorac TANtalizer Baked Bronzer-$7/$32
And then we have my warm wealthier alternative to blush: BRONZER! I always want to look like I just stepped out a private jet from St. Tropez during the spring/summer and this is a massive help. Baking in the sun without proper sunscreen is a no-no but if you want that sun kissed look all you need is this. Unlike blush, whenever I wear this I make it the last thing I put on. I forgo a finishing powder because I don't want anything masking this. I apply it as if I'm writing a rounded W on my face  starting from ear to ear and then do a quick T on my forehead and bridge of my nose. Basically just anywhere that the sun would naturally hit. The light shimmer of this bronzer is perfect for a day time or night time warm weather look and as a bonus it can be worn on the clavicles to enhance another wonderful feature.

These items are all reasonably priced and have earned themselves a permanent spot in my favorite makeup bag. Hopefully it earns one in your as well!

Hey ladies, I'm BACK! After a bit of a hiatus due to writing, traveling and planning someone big and exciting I am back with a vengeance to take on my biggest foe: a poorly made up face. Those that know me can agree that I am a makeup guru and love to share my results with anyone who will listen. Ever since my friend walked me into my first Sephora in 2006 I have purchased thousands of dollars worth of cosmetics and am ready to share this years finds with the masses.

Posh v Pinch-Beauty Essentials

With that said I know that some ladies are a bit frugal when it comes to makeup because they don't care about it enough to spend a lot on it so I've listed my essentials using two price points. I have tried and can highly recommend every product in both Posh and Pinch so there are no excuses to ever leave the apartment with an uneven looking boring face.

Posh-$219

1. Tarte Skinny SmolderEYES Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liner in Onyx- $19
The name says it all. It's a black waterproof liner that promises sultry looking eyes. What I like the best about this liner is that it alway looks fresh. I like that is has the built in smudger that allows me to apply, smudge a bit for a smokey eye look and then apply another coat to keep a fresh finish. Another plus is that while the pencil is very soft and glides over the lash line a little goes a long way so there is no need to press too hard and waste the product by overuse or worse, breakage.

2. Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 20- $43
I broke up with foundation when I discovered this product. I will admit that it took me about a year to finally purchase such a pricey moisturizer but the fact that it was tinted and has SPF 20 pushed me into it. I also wanted to wear something lighter for the humid NYC summers because I felt that my Philosophy mineral foundation was a bit too heavy for that time of year. What I adore about this product is that just a tiny amount gives me amazing coverage that lasts all day. Another plus is that a tube lasts about 10 months with 5-6 days a week of use which makes it worth the price tag.

3. Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer- $36
Smashbox's Photo Finish Foundation Primer is what first introduced me to the brand. Unlike many other primers this one gives me more of a matte feel and takes to my skin really well. I also like that it mixes well with my tinted moisturizer for a total one step application process. It's a great product from a wonderful brand that prides itself on giving what it says it does: a photo finishing primer.

4. Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Powder- $34
I've covered one of the best products to prep your skin for color so now let's talk about completing the look. Don't think that just because I'm recommending a base, color and a finish that you'll look as if you have tons of makeup on. On the contrary applying a finishing powder is really important when putting a look together because it helps to set that natural look. The trick to wearing any kind of foundation is to even out the skin tone, hide imperfections and make your face look as natural as ever--eyeshadows excluded of course! This micro finish powder does just that. Not only will this soften the appearance of imperfections on its own but worn on top of tinted moisturizer will make the skin look a bit more matte and natural. A plus is that unlike heavy finishing powders this product doesn't mess with the contours of the face so those high cheekbones or that razor sharp jawline don't get lost. It also doesn't leave a powdery look that other popular mineral brands tend to have. The trick is to not look like you're wearing anything!

5. Stila Lip Glaze-$22
Not many people, especially the person that inspired me to write this up, is a fan of lip glosses and I can see why. They can be sticky and leave marks on everything, they're a magnet for hair on a windy day and they generally don't last long but I don't feel like a look is complete with boring dry lips. What I like about these glosses is that not only do they come in an array of shades but it leaves a lasting sheen even after hours of use. I also adore the clicking sound it makes when I turn the bottom for more gloss to get onto the brush. This really is like painting!

6. Tarte TEN Limited Edition Collector's Palette-$44
This limited edition palette is a good buy for someone who not only wants a mix of great colors but that likes pretty packaging. The shadows in this kit are not only highly pigmented but are long lasting without the use of a primer. The reason I like this palette so much is because I like the individual colors as fall/winter staples as well as how blending a few lets me create colorful smokey eye looks for any time of day. The liner and mascara are added bonuses but that isn't needed because of my next and final Posh item:

7. Benefit Cosmetics They're Real! Mascara- $23
I have a confession to make: I found the love of my life. It's a love affair that has been going on for two years and I surprisingly I don't mind sharing. This mascara won me over with just one application. I'm serious when I say that I can't remember the one I used prior to this one. I've used Sephora's, Tarte, Benefits BadGal Lash, Bare Minerals, the whole lot, but this one is perfection. And it comes in a really cool looking bottle!

Pinch-$74

1. Sephora Collection Contour Eye Pencil 12h Wear Waterproof in Black Lace- $9
Sephora has done of great job of reformulating their cosmetics to match that or brands that charge twice as much for the same product. This liner lacks a smudger but it does what any liner needs to do. It gives intense color, it's smooth so it doesn't irritate the eyes and creates a lasting look. This liner also comes in two types of black: matte and shiny.

2. e.l.f. Studio Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20- $3
This tinted moisturizer not only has great coverage but is lightweight and can be mixed with primers or other moisturizers for added benefits. I really do like this product but the only set back is that it can be a bit dry. Not to worry though because it gives me a chance to mix it with other moisturizers that offer a higher SPF and it can easily be mixed with my absolute favorite primer of all time...

3. Philosophy The Present Invisible Skin Perfector & Oil-Free Makeup Primer- $29
This product is on the pinch list even though it's just a few dollars cheaper than it's Posh alternative. However I find myself liking and recommending this one more. I've been using it for over 4 years and never go on set without it. It's invisibility makes it easy to use on all skin tones and mixing it with tinted moisturizer boosts its effect. A plus is that it can be worn at night to prevent products, like retinol, from fading to fast. It has a black box warning that says to wait 2 whole minutes before applying anything else so I like to mix it with my tinted moisturizers every time I wear it.

4. e.l.f. Studio High Definition Powder- $6
Just like Make Up For Ever's HD Primer this translucent powder offers a nice finish to a moisturized and even face. A little bit goes a long way with these a gem that offers two additional options: Shimmer and Corrective Yellow for those who need a bit more coverage against mild redness and help reflect light away from under-eye circles without the need of heavy concealers.

5. mark Wonder Gloss Lip Shine-$12
I've been using this gloss for a few years now over my plumper because it has lasting shine without being tacky. I never worry about my hair getting stuck to my lips when I wear this and it adds three dimensional shine when I only apply it to the center of my lips over matte lipsticks.

6. Wet n Wild Color Icon Collection Eyeshadow Set in Petal Pusher- $5
This is the most impressive Pinch entry on the list. I've tried Wet n Wild cosmetics in the past but they never stayed on more than a few hours. They barely even added color to my lids, that's how bad it was. But two years ago I was getting ready to go out and my cousin happened to have some of these in her collection. I tried them and was blown away. They have stepped up their game to an impressive degree. The shadows in the Color Icon collection not only come in great colors but they are highly pigmented and long lasting. I own all of their eyeshadow sets as well as their trios. This is a collection that anyone who wants to experience an amazing product at a much lower cost needs to try. I can't praise these shadows enough and they have taken center stage to every look that I create.

7. Benefit Cosmetics They're Real! Mascara-$10
Sometimes there are no substitutions. This would be the first item I would recommend to anyone that compliments what I do with my eyes. If you're not ready to drop $23 on the full size bottle just purchase the mini version. I keep my large one at home and mini in my every day makeup bag.

And there you have it. Beauty essentials for the person that can spend a bit more on cosmetics and for one that isn't ready to have a makeup stash worth hundreds. Next I'll take on my favorite skin care items because nothing is more important to me than taking care of my favorite canvas.

Stay beautiful!

Here's another Ageless Derma product that I've been using for the last few weeks. It's their Swiss Apple Stem Cell Oil-Free Continuous Moisturizer. Just like their moisturizer with spf 35, this one is really light on the skin and doesn't leave it feeling oily or greasy. Which it shouldn't because it's oil free but well all know that sometimes a product like this can still give us that frying pan look.

Just like any other moisturizer this one promises to keep your skin hydrated which helps slow down the appearance of fine lines which is what anyone over 26 should make sure their products can do. But unlike all the ones on the market this one outwardly claims that due to Swill Apple Stem Cells, it lets the moisturizer works continuously throughout the day as if no time has passed since you first put it on. It pretty much says that the potency doesn't diminish throughout the day thanks to the stem cells and a bunch of other ingredients that make this pack a good punch.

When I used this product I will say that I did like it. It seemed effective, left my skin feeling and looking hydrated throughout the day and it didn't make my skin look or feel oily. I think this would be a good moisturizer to wear if your foundation always has spf in it since this would blend in easily and give you everything that your skin needs when you walk out the door which is coverage, protection and hydration.

So now it's your turn to give it a try. Enter my giveaway below for a chance to try this out for yourself!

I've been on a serious shopping bender lately and I have nothing but the holiday season to blame. On today's trip to Sephora I saw what looked like the cutest and most useful new item ever: A Sephora Exclusive Mini Mask Magic Trio by Peter Thomas Roth.

I've been a fan of Peter Thomas Roth since I used their mineral powder sunscreen and then a bigger fan when I discovered the Max Sheer All Defense Lotion. So it's safe to say it's a brand I trust has quality products.

This trio was not only cute but it has peels in ingredients I never thought of using. Just like Ole Henriksens Power Peel has an almond polish and walnut scrub, this PTR has one a rose mask as well as a pumpkin enzyme one. Both ingredients are great because I've recently fallen deep in love with the smell and taste of roses and pumpkins are super festive!

One plus about this set is that the products aren't meant to be used as a system which makes the .5oz jars last a bit longer. I plan on using these each once a week along with my other cleansers that I use daily. I'm so excited to have added this to my skin care regiment because I take it super serious. There's a reason my coworkers think I'm 10 years younger than I am and that's my diligence and obsession with my skin.

So yea, it's worth it for sure. It costs $20 and it's a great intro into this amazing brand if you've never used any of their products. And if you have then you'll instantly know that it's worth it.

Makeup brushes are an essential part of anyones makeup kit but without proper care it can lead to bacteria getting into your products and turning it into the gift that keeps on giving. I personally keep three sets of brushes: one for my blues/greens, another for my purples/blacks and a final set for my light shades.

A few months ago I went on one of my Sephora trips and was drawn to a red lip gloss by Ardency Inn. I've never been fully comfortable with a bright red lip but it was calling me and I had to give a try. This brand claims to have been created due to the NYC music scene and their logo is a testament to that. Their products are made for women who rock "on and off the stage" and after wearing their gloss and liner for a few months I have to agree with that statement.

Below is a run down of the products that have made me fall in love with the brand:

1. Ardency Inn Americana Ultra Lightweight Skin Perfecting Primer- $34.00
Like most primers on the market Ardency Inn's Ultra Lightweight Skin Primer is silicone-free and is super hydrating. It doesn't feel greasy like Smashbox's Photo Finish Primer (sorry Smashbox!) so it's perfect for mixing with your tinted moisturizer for a flawless summer look that won't have your products melt off your skin in the sun!

2. Ardency Inn Punker Original Smoky Shadow- $19.00
I'm living these shadow pencils that have been on the market recently and the Punker Original Smoky Shadow is no exception.  This shadow liner is so thick that you can instantly create a smoky eye look with any powder shadow that you own. The intensity of this products pigment will give even the brightest shades that dark edge that a rock-and-roll look requires.

3. Ardency Inn Modster Long Play Lip Vinyl- $23.00
The Original Mix is hands down my favorite of the lip vinyl shades. This gloss reaches its maximum color with just one application and will stay on your lips for hours on ends. I never have to use a clear gloss as a top coat because the multifaceted shine is intense. Whenever I don't want to be super glam (which is rare of course) I just dab a bit on the center of my top and bottom lip then spread it out with my finger that's got a bit of clear gloss on it.

4. Ardency Inn Modster Long Play Supercharged Lip Color- $25.00
If you're looking for a slightly more subtle lip color without all the extra shine this is the best option for you. This lipstick is really soft and unlike others that will only set you back about $10 these don't feather or bleed which are the biggest no-no's when it comes to a bold lip color.

5. Ardency Inn Punker Eyes Like Fire Shadow- $21.00
I've used creamy eyeliners and shadows but have never come across one that comes in a brush. This just raised the bar for me because I love new and innovative ideas in the world of makeup. Ardency Inn minimizes the risk of applying too much color (as if that's a thing?!?!?) by putting this in a click dispenser similar to Stila's lip glosses that will only let you distribute a little bit of the shadow at a time while you're perfecting your look.

6. Ardency Inn Modster Light-Catching Eye Powder- $32.00
Just like most powder shadows that cater to the rock-and-roll and gothy look lovers the pigments in these shadows are the real deal. If you go to bed with it on you will wake up with beautifully made up eyes and pillows that barely even noticed your face. These shadows have great staying power and when used with their Original Smoky Shadow you can guarantee to have the exact look the brand had in mind when creating their products.

7. Ardency Inn Punker Smoky Eye Kit- $39.00
This is pretty much an Ardency Inn starter kit for those that are just joining the smoky eye bandwagon. The kit contained the smoky eye basics: the deepest black mascara, super rich and wet looking eye liner and a highly pigmented black shadow with tons of staying power. These three items are the perfect base for a nighttime smoky eye look and are best mixed with blues, greens and purples to make you stand out more than the average rocker chicks that stick to basic black.

Overall I think Ardency Inn has the staying power of their products and I'm excited to see how the brand will expand as they develop more products and expand their range of colors. This is a brand that looks very promising in delivering the edgy look I always default to and try to get everyone to embrace!
