CellPro iPhone 6 Armband

Oct 26, 2015

Oh the many gadgets and extras that I'm acquiring as a runner! I love listening to music while I'm out on my runs because it helps keep me motivated and on track. I use it the pace myself, to push myself and also to not be bored as I'm pounding the pavement.

During these chilly months I normally despise wearing armbands because they always seem to slip down but when I wear this it doesn't happen. I'm not sure if it's because I wear it over my hoody or not but regardless of that, it works!

CellPro gave me an armband to try out for my runs and while it's not an awesome as my running belt it's not a bad armband at all. It stays in place while I run and doesn't let my headphones hit me in the face while I'm doing it. This armband fits my iPhone like a glove and it seems to fit my arm like that as well because I don't have to worry about it ending up on elbows or worse, having it loosen up and causing my phone to fall.

I also think it's a really cute armband. They can be found here on Amazon so get started on that new years revolution so you can hit the ground running once the hangover wears off!

Color Changing Nal Polishes by Del Sol

Oct 23, 2015

Just like with these awesome Del Sol sunglasses that I wrote about recently I was lucky enough to get a pair of Color-Changing Nail Polishes by Del Sol that do the same thing-change color when the sun hits.mI've been big on getting mani pedis monthly because I live in the land of endless summer so it's cool to be able to have a different set of polish during the day and at night.

Just like the sunglasses, once I get back indoors the sun-kissed color lasts a long time so anyone paying attention really notices the difference.

Out of the two colors that I received Calm & Cool are my favorite ones. It's a nice shade of lilac when you first apply it but becomes a nice grape shade when the sun hits it. This nail polish is 5-Free and is never tested on animals. When I got this polish it wasn't too thin or thick and I only had to apply two coats in order to cover my nails entirely. I normally give nails tons of try to dry because I'm notorious for ruining my nails easy but I didn't really check the time on these. However they were fully dry within 10 minutes when I decided to actually use my hands.

These are pretty cool and just like the sunglasses Del Sol is letting me share the love and give one or two of these away. So check out their line of polishes and let me know which one you'd love to rock indoors and outdoors!

A Natural Anxiety Remedy? Maybe!

Oct 21, 2015

I've been dealing with anxiety for a few months now and I have to say that it's not fun. I always thought people were being dramatic when they said they suffered from it but now that it's affecting me I see that it's no joke. The constant rollercoaster feeling in my stomach drives me insane, as does the lack of sleep and feeling like myself.

My doctor put me on Xanax in August to help me deal with this but I've been doing a lot of research on it and even though I take a very low dosage I don't like the idea of being addicted to it. I've my share of issues with that and I don't want to start that up again. Since I'm trying to get my body and mind clear of negative energy and things that I don't need I was happy to give Nutura Plus' Anxiety and Stress Support Supplements a try.

I didn't have an appointment with my doctor for two weeks but did a lot of research on these and it didn't seem to affect people on anti-depressants which was a good sign so I figured I'd give it a try. I hate taking pills, so I liked that these capsules were smooth and weren't too big for my tiny throat. These were actually easier to swallow than the 200mg Welbutrin pills that I'm currently taking twice  a day.

As far as it messing with my medication, I didn't notice any change. These supplements say that they help with sleep but I didn't notice that at all. What I did notice is that they didn't knock me out the way Xanax has done a few times. If I was already in a relaxed state and took a .5mg Xanax I would pass out within an hour and sleep for a while and that wasn't the case with these.  They also weren't harsh on my stomach which a lot of supplements tend to be.

I see my doctor in a few days for an update on my medication and I'm going to bring these in to see what he thinks. My goal is to eventually stop taking any kind of prescription medication that isn't 100% needed so if he gives this the OK I'll keep taking them until the bottle runs out and then reassess.

Five Healthy Habits for Contact Lens Wearers

Oct 19, 2015
Thank you to the American Optometric Association for sponsoring this post. Click here to learn more about the AOA and how to properly take care of your contact lenses and additional eye health issues!
Always good to have new contacts on deck!

I can't remember a time without bad vision. Sure I've seen photos of me as a child not wearing glasses but I think my first real memories are either blurry or behind a lens.

I love wearing glasses. They're fun, easy and can compliment a look but when you have horrible vision like I do that can be a problem.

My cousin got me my first pair of contacts when I was 15 and I was so nervous about them. I've never put anything in my eyes myself before and I remember how i basically had to be strapped down when I had to get eye drops put in once. My eyes were just off limits. But at 15 I was ready to conquer the world with my blue bangs and rimless eyes!

My first try with contacts was not without its mistakes. Remember my aversion to eye drops? Yea, that was still a thing and I was so afraid of eye drops that when my eyes got dry on my first day I rubbed them so much that they broke. In my eyeball. Yes, that happened to me. The optometrist was sympathetic and gave me another lens on the house but warned me that to wear contacts meant taking care of them, and my eyes.

Fast forward a year and I was still relatively scared of drops. I remember the same thing happening as I took my SAT's. There I was, taking the test that would decide my educational fate, and I had a broken contact lens. Seriously? Even since then I decided that I had to take all things regarding my eyes seriously and finally developed great habits that I maintain to this day.

Here are some tips that I've developed over the years and think everyone can take advantage of in order to practice healthy contact lens habits:

1. Be Totally Sterile: I make sure my hands are totally cleaned before I touch anything related to my contacts. From my solution to the case. I need everything to be totally sterile because I want to make sure I don't contaminate anything.

2. Rinse Lenses Before Each Use:  I rinse each contact thoroughly and rub them a little bit to make sure there isn't any potential residue left over.

3. Clean Lens Cases Thoroughly: Once my contacts are nicely in place I rinse my lens case with solution and let it air dry so it's always fresh for the next time I put my contacts in.

4. Replace Them As Scheduled: Don't overwear them no matter how temping it is. . It's a nasty habit that I actually kept going through college. I used to wear extended wear lenses as well as daily wear ones but I treated them both the same. This led to constant red eyes, extreme dryness and the dreaded eye infections. I also used to never carry my glasses/contacts and solution with me so if my eyes started to bug me while I was out my day/night was over. Totally

5. Get Regular Fittings: Getting regular checkups is key. Just because your vision doesn't seem to change it's not a bad idea to see your optometrist regularly to make sure you're wearing the right lenses for your eyes and that you aren't straining even just a little bit.

These are just some tips that I've picked up after 15+ years of wearing contact lenses but the infograph above, as well as getting more information from the AOA can give your more healthy tips in order to keep those peepers safe and able to wear contacts for as long as possible!

My New Mantra-Wake Up. Kick Ass. Repeat.

Oct 15, 2015

I've always been the misery loves company type. At least I was when I was  New York City girl. There was something about that city that just had everyone living in a constant state of semi-contentment and it was just the way it was.

But when I moved out to LA everything changed--eventually. The constant sunny days made me smile more, care about my health and overall well being. It was major! I also started blogging after my move and was always looking for ways to make my blog look prettier, to write better posts and have content that people actually cared about. The way I saw it was that there are thousands of blogs out there but I had to make mine stand out or else it would get lost in the shuffle.

I'm finally at a place where it's getting some recognition, I'm getting great numbers in terms of page views, unique visitors and other blogs linking my posts and I want to keep that going. Now that I'm not working out of a tiny studio apartment and have tons of space I'm getting things together to create my perfect writing area and I love that MMD sent me this wood sign to see what I thought about it. With everything that I'm currently doing-working out, working, blogging, taking care of my mental health- I want to do just what the wood sign says. Wake up. Kick ass. Repeat.

At 7"x7" the sign isn't huge so it's great for a small desk area or if you plan on hanging a lot of different signs and photos near each other. It's hand made using cedar wood and you its obvious that it's very well made. I'm glad this was sent to me and think everyone who has goals that they want a daily reminder of should get one of these from Amazon ASAP!

Pureology Colour Fanatic Hair Treatment

Oct 8, 2015

I've been working out like crazy lately which has me sweating profusely from every pore in my body. It feels amazing to have all that energy again and to see the progress but my hair isn't a fan of this at all. I don't have the type of hair that I should wash every day and I don't have the magic hands that Dominican hair stylists have so I've been taking care of it myself once a week-washing, rollers, blow dry, straightener. But, now that I'm working out so much I feel like it needs to be washed at least twice a week so that it doesn't smell like sweat. Double eek!

Add to that, I love dying my hair a medium brown color because I think it goes better with my skin tone than my super dark brown, so needless to say I've got a lot of issues with damage going on. Serums, sprays and leave-in conditioners have become my best friend but I like to change things up every once in a while. That's why I was happy to give Pureology's Colour Fanatic Leave-In Treatment a try. I received a small bottle to use so I was eager to give it a spin the next time I washed my hair.

After washing with my normal shampoo and conditioner I used this leave in conditioner and let my hair air dry. That's how I like to test out new products that claim to leave my hair super soft and silky. Since it's so warm out my hair dried pretty quick and thanks to this product it was super soft and smelled like heaven. My curls were soft, not tangled and I knew that if I wanted to use the straightener after my hair would be silky, and it was.

Overall it's a good product and the cost isn't steep. My hair looked shiny, my split ends weren't as noticeable and my hair had a put of volume when I put it up in a high ponytail.

So if you want to get your hands on one of these the company giving one away so leave a comment as to why you want one and you could be lucky one!

Enjoy an Adventure Filled Vacation in Florida This Fall

Oct 5, 2015
This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Visit Gulf County for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

Like I wrote a few weeks ago, my husband and I love going away. We especially like trips where we can do lots of activities. This past summer alone we spent 10 days in Maui and five in Maine visiting national parks, hiking, whale watching and always being on the go. Along with our two amazing summer trips we’ve spent weeks touring the Northwest, driving across the country and checking out the beautiful sights of Costa Rica. We’ve made it a habit to not just go away to beach vacations but to plan as many activities as possible. It’s important to use to see and do as much as we can while we’re away because we are total adventure seekers.

We head down to Florida every year or so to visit relatives so when I saw the information on the Gulf County Adventure Guide it really piqued my interest. They have a lot of cool looking adventures to choose from that I think would be fun for us to do. I love animals so going on a turtle treasure hunt and checking out the dolphin parade is right up my alley. I’ve always wanted to see one but never had the chance to.

We’re also big kayakers and didn’t miss a chance to do that when we went to Alaska a few years ago and would love a chance to do it in a place where the temperatures aren’t so frigid.

There are just so many thing to do in GCFL that will give us Northeasterners a break from the chill in the air during the fall season. Our extended family is always looking to travel together but with school starting in the fall it’s not always the easiest thing to do but now that we can have something that’s only a two hour flight away, it can easily become a fall tradition for us.

GCFL is hosting weekly contests where you can win a $50 gift card to enjoy on an adventure of your own. They’re picking 10 winners a week and it runs between 9/28-10/25 so enter now for your chance to snag one!

Getting My Face Clean with Soniclear Petite

I've been using Michael Todd's Soniclear for over a year now and absolutely adore it. It leaves my skin and body feeling very clean and smooth after without the need to scrub it with something harsh..

As someone that travels a lot I'm always a bit paranoid of packing it along with the charger because I'm afraid of it getting crushed, leaving the charging adapter at home (or worse, vacation), or it turning on while at the airport and having the TSA need to search my bag!

On top of that, as a blogger, I have some essentials that I NEED to travel with even on short trips and can't afford to have my face not looking it's best. Face scrubs and cleansers are great but I got into the habit of using my Soniclear and really like the deep clean that it gives me. That's why I was super excited to give Michael Todd's Soniclear Petite a try.

The Soniclear Petite offers the same benefits as their full sized one, it just comes with one less accessory to carry around and doesn't have the larger body attachment. But for a travel sized facial cleanser, I can dig that. It charges via USB which means I can charge it any time, anywhere, so long as I have my laptop or my iPhone charging box. Plus it charges in a really cool way: if I don’t carry the charging cradle with me that’s okay because the charging port magnetically attaches directly to the device.

I usually use it with my Neutrogena Makeup Removing Cleanser because it doesn’t have any harsh or abrasive particles but they do say that it can be used with soft exfoliating scrubs. Because I tend to space out while I’m doing anything, especially getting my beauty routine on, I like that the soniclear beeps when it’s time to move on to a different section of my face, ensuring that I cover all areas and don’t linger too long on one spot.

When I’m done using it I just rinse the brush head and handle with warm water and place it on the cradle so it can be ready for the next use. Since I do have the full sized one I won’t be using the petite much while I’m at home but I’ll make sure to always keep it charged so that it’s ready to use when I’m on the go.

Keeping My Herbs Fresh With an Herb Keeper

Oct 4, 2015

I've been growing my own herbs for the last couple of months now and it's getting to the point where I have more than I can handle. There are only so many Italian nights that I can use my basil on and so much cilantro that I care to use at once. But still, my herbs are my babies and I want them to last as long as possible after I pick them. Unfortunately organic produce doesn't last long due to the lack of pesticides so using an herb keeper is the way to go.

What I really like about the Herb Keeper by Gourmet2Day is that it's slim and easy to use. You just have to fill the jaw with water, put your herbs in and place it in the fridge. It's size is great because it's not too tall or wide so it doesn't take up too much space in my refrigerator.

I also like that I don't have to remove the entire cup in order to get the amount of herbs I'm looking to get thanks to the ladder hooks.

Gourmet2day says that this will keep herbs for at least two weeks and I'm really hoping that that's the case. If that's the case I'm going to get another one just for my basil because those grow like crazy!

Wine Cork and Stopper

Oct 2, 2015

Oh wine, one of my favorite things ever. I like it red, I like it white and I love it sparkling! But what I don't always like is when I try to open a bottle and key gets stuck or breaks the cork. The other things that isn't my favorite is when I don't want to finish a bottle and have to stick a broken cork back in.

I've had so many different wine keys from Ikea or discount stores and they were always pretty flimsy and did the job for a while but the one I got from X-Chef isn't bad at all. It's got some weight to it which means it's nice and sturdy and it came with a stopper that isn't so tall that it can't fit in my fridge.

I loved how this stopped was thick and didn't feel cheaply made. It fit my sparkling wine bottle perfectly and I loved hearing a popping sound when I went back for more because it made me feel confident that the stopper was doing it's job! I was given this item for free to review but they're selling them on Amazon for $9.99 as opposed to their regular price of $20. It's not a bad deal if you want something that will last for more than one bottle of wine.
